the shrink happening

20 students, 1 instructor, 12,722 ft^2 of shrink wrap plastic, 3,156 feet of rope, 5 days and one question: What kind of place can we design using a material we know nothing about? 

The challenge: to transform a thin, 2-dimensional material into a 3-dimensional environment. We took on this challenge in a one-week workshop supervised by our guest professor, Jeffrey Haase from The Ohio State University. [continued]

The function: ‘The Shrink Happening’ was a place of celebration for the school after a long week of short intense projects, or charrettes, of which our project was one. 

The solution: an “idea cloud“ that floats over our heads and creates a dance between light and shadow. Our structure came in like a dragon and next week will leave without a physical trace. A temporary place made but permanent knowledge gained. [continued]
